Documentary Production
Documentaries are essential media to us and they’re one of the main reasons we’re in this business. What really happened -- and how we should present that reality -- are two of the most important questions we want answers to. Bill Kavanagh was the Field Producer of Enemies of War, a documentary about human rights, war, peace, and murder in Central America. This one-hour documentary about a civil war in El Salvador and how U.S. policy affected it was aired on PBS nationwide. Kavanagh reported the story from El Salvador, Washington, and the UN, conducting interviews with officials from several administrations, Congress, the Salvadoran government and military, rebel leaders, and international human rights watchdog groups. Kavanagh's latest documentary has been awarded two Ford Foundation grants. The film, Brick By Brick: A Civil Rights Story, documents the groundbreaking history made in the U.S. v. Yonkers federal civil rights litigation. Brick By Brick: A Civil Rights Story was first released in 2007 on Thirteen/WNET in New York City and has been touring internationally since then in festivals, at universities, and at civil rights gatherings. It tells one of the most explosive contemporary stories of the American movement for equal justice under the law. VNR’s and Sponsored FilmsIn addition to long-form documentaries, Kavanagh Productions has also produced documentary productions for client-sponsored projects and video news releases.
